Navigate Outdoors offers a comprehensive Professional River Guide Assessment and Training Program, providing a unique opportunity to explore the Himalayan rivers while advancing your whitewater rafting skills in a real expedition environment.

What You’ll Learn in Professional River Guide Training
Our curriculum emphasizes:
- River Rescue & Safety: Including swift water rescue techniques, client safety, emergency response, and crisis management.
- Whitewater Rafting Skills: Learn to guide rafts through Class III–IV rapids, paddle commands, river navigation, flip drills, and swimmer rescues.
- Instruction & Communication: Develop teaching skills, communication strategies, and group management in dynamic river environments.
- Equipment Handling: Focus on gear management, rigging, maintenance, and emergency repairs.
- Cultural & Environmental Knowledge: Understand river ecosystems, flora and fauna, regional geology, and Nepal’s cultural heritage.
- Professionalism in the Outdoors: Adaptability, decision-making under uncertainty, hygiene practices, and camp management.
Certifications Offered
Participants have the opportunity to earn the following internationally recognized certifications:
- IRF (International Rafting Federation)
- ITRA (International Technical Rescue Association)
- Whitewater Technician Level I & II
- First Aid & CPR (in-person training required)

Instruction is provided in English, Nepali, and Hindi by internationally certified instructors who lead trips globally.
Commercial Raft Guide Training (2 Weeks)
This course is designed for those seeking employment as a professional raft guide. It covers:
Week 1:
- Basics of rafting, safety briefings, and paddle techniques.
- Handling paddle and oar boats, equipment care, rigging, and river commands.
Week 2:
- Focused training on Class II–III rivers.
- Camp management, group dynamics, risk mitigation, and food hygiene.
- Advanced river maneuvers, rope systems (e.g., 3:1 mechanical advantage), and throw bag rescues.
What’s Included in Professional River Guide Training:
- All instruction and course materials
- Rafting and safety gear (PFD, helmet, wetsuit)
- Meals and camping equipment
- Textbook and certification fees
⚠️ Note: Participants must be physically and mentally prepared for demanding outdoor conditions, cold water exposure, and remote camping. Prior First Aid & CPR certification is required for commercial guide employment.
Advanced Rowing Skills Course
For experienced paddle raft guides seeking to master oar-frame navigation on Class II–III+ whitewater. This course includes advanced rigging, river reading, and guide-level rowing techniques. Contact our lead instructor for eligibility and enrollment.
