Course Summary:

Through the course, students will learn through hands-on activities, applying the skills taught in real environments. By the end of the training, you will have the confidence to navigate uneven terrain, use climbing ropes, and ascend snow-capped peaks in the Himalayas. We expect participants to arrive with a positive attitude, good physical fitness, and a willingness to work hard as a team.

Glacier Walk & Crevasse Rescue

Navigate glaciers and rescue from crevasses using rope systems and ice tools.

Ice Climbing Techniques

Learn ice climbing skills, including tool use and ascending frozen formations.

Rope Handling & Knots

Master rope skills, knot tying, belaying, and rappelling for climbing and rescue.

Self-Arrest Techniques

Stop a fall on icy terrain with or without an ice axe for self-rescue.

Camp Selection & Snow Camping

Select safe campsites and master snow camping for mountain expeditions.

Himalayan Environment Studies

Study the Himalayas' conditions and ecology to enhance navigation and survival skills.

Physical Challenge: Fitness & Health Recommendations

This course requires strong physical and mental preparation due to high-altitude trekking (above 4,000 meters / 12,000 feet). We recommend:

  • Daily Cross-Training: 1-2 hours of running, swimming, or biking.

  • Backpacking Load: Average pack weight of 35–50 pounds (including personal gear, water, and camera).

Participants must be prepared to carry their own personal gear. A few extra porters will assist with group gear.

Course Length & Route

  • Course Duration: 16+4 days

  • Maximum Group Size: 12 students with 3 instructors

  • Trekking Area: Langtang region with 8 days of trekking (4 days before and after the climb).

  • Base Camp: Yala Peak base camp, 4,000m (12,000ft)

  • Maximum Elevation: 5,500m (18,150ft)

  • Minimum Age: 16 years


Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1:

Arrive in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel, and course briefing.
Introduction to the team and course objectives.

Day 2:

Climbing practice at Nagarjun with a focus on rope and anchor building, rappelling, and climbing techniques.

Day 3:

Travel to Syaphrubesi (8-9 hours) and stay at a local guesthouse.

Day 4-5:

Trek to Lama Hotel and Langtang (camping and acclimatization).

Day 6:

Arrive at Kyanjin Gompa and explore around the area for acclimatization.

Day 7:

Rest day and further exploration around Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 8:

Start trekking towards Yala Peak Base Camp, setting up camp for 7 days of technical training.

Day 9-13:

Practice technical climbing skills at base camp.

Day 14:

Climb to High Camp, review skills and prepare for peak ascent.

Day 15:

Summit Yala Peak early in the morning, then return to base camp for rest.

Day 16-17:

Trek to Tarke Ghyang, experiencing real backpacking conditions.

Day 18-19:

Continue trekking to Thimbu, then drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 20:

Half-day sightseeing in Kathmandu and leisure dinner with the climbing team.

Day 21:

Final departure and transfer to the airport.
