One-horned rhinoceros walking across a dirt road in Chitwan National Park, Nepal, surrounded by dense jungle foliage.A Perfect Addition to Your Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Trek

If you’re looking to balance your high-altitude Nepal trekking adventure—like the Everest Base Camp trek, Upper Mustang trek, or Annapurna Circuit—with a lowland wildlife experience, Chitwan National Park is your perfect next stop.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chitwan National Park spans over 932 square kilometers of dense jungle, grasslands, and wetlands. Located within easy access from both Kathmandu and Pokhara, Chitwan is one of the best national parks in Asia for wildlife viewing.

Spot the Iconic Wildlife of Nepal

On your Chitwan jungle safari, you’ll have an excellent chance to spot one-horned rhinos, Royal Bengal tigers, several species of deer, monkeys, and more than 500 species of birds. If you’re extremely lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a leopard, wild elephant, or sloth bear.

While the Everest base camp trek introduces you to the grandeur of the Himalayas, Chitwan showcases the untamed beauty of Nepal’s southern plains—a rewarding contrast for those exploring the Himalayan base camp trek, Annapurna base camp trek, or other popular Nepal hiking trails.

Community-Based Homestays – A Local Touch

Instead of large luxury resorts, we offer authentic community homestay experiences that connect you directly with the local Tharu community. Enjoy traditional meals, interact with families, and take part in daily village life—whether it’s cooking local dishes or lending a hand during seasonal harvests. This cultural connection is as enriching as the scenic Annapurna trek or trekking Upper Mustang.

Bird Watching & Wildlife Photography Paradise

Chitwan is a dream destination for bird watchers and wildlife photographers. With more than 400 bird species, many of which are endemic to Nepal, the park offers ideal conditions for capturing breathtaking shots in the wild. Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or a curious explorer post-EBC trek Nepal, Chitwan is a visual treat.

Optional Elephant Rides (Ethical Alternatives Available)

While elephant rides have been a traditional way to explore the jungle, we promote ethical and eco-conscious alternatives, such as jeep safaris and nature walks, which allow for immersive wildlife experiences while respecting the wellbeing of animals.

Combine With Other National Parks

For those on extended Nepal trekking and tour packages, consider combining your Chitwan trip with:

  • Bardiya National Park – renowned for Bengal tiger sightings
  • Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve – ideal for spotting Arna (wild buffaloes)
  • Shuklaphanta National Park – rising in popularity for deer, leopards, and tiger sightings

These destinations offer a rich wildlife complement to your Nepal base camp trekking experience or trekking Annapurna Circuit.
