Island Peak Climbing, officially known as Imja Tse (6,160 meters), is the most popular trekking peak in Nepal, ideal for adventurers seeking their first Himalayan climbing experience. Situated in the heart of the Khumbu region, Island Peak rises impressively from the Lhotse Glacier, surrounded by a spectacular amphitheater of giant mountains.

Named Island Peak by Eric Shipton’s expedition team in 1953—due to its appearance as an island rising from a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche—this stunning peak has a proud mountaineering heritage. It was first successfully summited in 1953 by a British team as part of their training for the Everest expedition. Among the team was the legendary Tenzing Norgay, who would soon make history alongside Edmund Hillary on Mount Everest.

The Island Peak summit lies on the south ridge of Lhotse Shar and is surrounded by towering peaks including Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Polu, Ama Dablam, and Baruntse. Its glaciated west face offers a thrilling climb with unforgettable alpine scenery and panoramic views from the summit that rival any peak in the region.

Though considered a non-technical peak, Island Peak requires the use of basic mountaineering gear and knowledge of rope techniques, crampons, and ice axes. It is perfect for climbers looking to gain high-altitude experience or prepare for more technical Himalayan expeditions.

Whether you’re an adventurous trekker or an aspiring mountaineer, Island Peak Climbing promises the perfect balance of challenge, excitement, and Himalayan majesty.
