Upper Dolpo Trek – Explore Nepal’s Hidden Himalayan Gem
Experience Pristine Wilderness, Ancient Tibetan Culture, and Phoksundo Lake.
The Upper Dolpo Trek offers a journey into one of Nepal’s most remote and mystical landscapes. Closed to outsiders until 1989, this hidden gem in the Far-Western Himalayas is known for its stark natural beauty, authentic Tibetan Buddhist culture, and elusive wildlife such as the snow leopard.
Made famous by Peter Matthiessen’s The Snow Leopard and Eric Valli’s film Himalaya, Dolpo remains largely untouched by modern development. Here, time seems to stand still.
The trek centers around the turquoise Phoksundo Lake, often called the “Jewel of Dolpo”, and passes through ancient villages, high passes, and sacred monasteries.
