Dhaulagiri Round Trek – Extreme Adventure in the Himalayas

Conquer the High Passes Around the 7th Highest Peak on Earth through Dhaulagiri Round Trek.

The Dhaulagiri Round Trek is one of the most challenging and remote high-altitude treks in Nepal. It is perfect for experienced trekkers seeking true wilderness adventure. Mt. Dhaulagiri stands at 8,167 meters and ranks as the seventh-highest mountain in the world. This 16-day expedition circles the massive bulk of Dhaulagiri. You cross glaciers, snowy passes, and some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Himalayas.

Route Overview

Navigate Outdoor organizes and guides this unforgettable Dhaulagiri Round Trek. The journey begins in Beni, nestled in the Kali Gandaki Valley. The trail follows the Myagdi Khola river through terraced farmland and thick forests.

As you trek higher into the Dhaulagiri region, the terrain becomes increasingly rugged and remote. The environment transforms dramatically. You experience a true sense of isolation and deep immersion in nature.

Your first key acclimatization stop is Italian Base Camp at 3,650 meters. Here you rest and enjoy early views of Dhaulagiri’s stunning ice-covered ridges. The journey continues through progressively more demanding campsites.

Eventually, you camp on glaciers and expansive snowfields above 4,500 meters. This is where the real challenge begins. You then cross the treacherous Chhonbardan Glacier.

Next, you reach the iconic French Pass at 5,240 meters. Shortly after, you traverse Dhampus Pass at 5,250 meters. This leads you into the legendary Hidden Valley.

Hidden Valley is a mysterious high-altitude basin surrounded by massive Himalayan giants. It was once considered a Tibetan refuge. This adds a mystical element to your trek.

The Dhaulagiri Round Trek concludes in Marpha village in the Mustang region. This picturesque town is famous for its apple orchards and stone-paved lanes. It is the perfect place to relax after days of extreme adventure.

From Marpha, you can return to Pokhara by a scenic 9-hour drive. Alternatively, you can take a short domestic flight from nearby Jomsom.
